4th April 2013
The ArtRole International Exchange Programme, in collaboration with the Goethe-Institut Iraq, is proud to announce the opening of a solo exhibition by Haure Madjid. The exhibition is hosted within the historic Hawler (Erbil) Citadel, a landmark with over 5,000 years of history.
For our 2013 programme, ArtRole invited Haure Madjid a Düsseldorf-based artist of Kurdish-Iraqi origin to showcase a selection of his works created between 2010 and 2012. The opening ceremony was followed by an insightful public discussion with the artist.
In this exhibition, Madjid reflects upon his artistic journey over the past 15 years while living and working in Germany. He explores the evolution of contemporary Western painting, the transformative influence of new media and technology on the arts, and the fundamental shifts occurring within Western society. Furthermore, Madjid discusses his deep connection to his Kurdish heritage and how it remains intricately interwoven with his experiences of Western culture. It is vital for the audience in Erbil a rapidly growing city to engage with the achievements and perspectives of the Kurdish diaspora.
